Organizers of last week’s Adecco job fair at the Hornell Knights of Columbus consider the event a success.
The May 31 job fair was sponsored by Adecco, the City of Hornell, Chemung-Schuyler-Steuben Workforce New York, the Hornell Chamber of Commerce and the Knights of Columbus.
“We had 118 people participate; a really decent turnout for short development time and only one staffing agency recruiting,” said Dan Porter, executive director of CSS Workforce New York.
Adecco reported about 70 fair attendees were “suitable” for various openings, a potential placement rate of 60 percent.
“That is, I am told by industry folks, an astounding rate as industry averages are significantly below that for an average job fair type event,” Porter said.
Porter said four people were already on the job by Tuesday.
For candidates willing to travel to Binghamton, Rochester and Corning for a paycheck, Adecco reported 150 to 200 immediate openings in the culinary, light industrial, clerical and information technology fields.
“This event was, in my opinion, a definitive success,” Porter added.
