A job fair organizer said several employers who are looking to hire have been lined up for the event next week.
The fifth annual West Georgia Job Fair will be held April 12 at the Carroll County Recreation Department.
“We have 20 employers participating this year, and all have indicated they are hiring now or expect to be hiring this summer,” said Ken Winters, employment services coordinator for the Carrollton Housing Authority. “These employers are in manufacturing, health care, construction, technology, fast foods and data entry.”
Winters recommends that job seekers bring several copies of their resumes and dress in business attire.
Attending employers will include Home Depot, Tanner Health System, Lowe’s, Southwire, Greenway Medical, Ranstad-Honda Lock, West Georgia Technical College, Georgia Department of Labor, Employment Plus, WIA, RA-LIN Associates, Right From Start Medicaid, KidsPeace, Bonnell Aluminum (Ronstad), Omni Communications, U.S. Army, Sizemore, Beck Janitorial, McDonalds, Heritage Healthcare of Franklin, Elwood Staffing, Walmart.com and Rondstad of Newnan.
“We had about 500 job seekers attending last year,” Winters said. “This is the first year that the Carroll County Employers’ Committee, with Jason Newman of Die-Tech Industries, as chairman, has participated as a sponsor of the fair.”
He said the Carrollton Housing Authority, with Charles Griffin as executive director, has been a sponsor since the beginning.
Winters can be contacted at 770-834-5480, extension 14.
The job fair comes on the heels of Monday’s announcement that Carroll County’s job force is growing and unemployment figures are heading downward.
Carroll County’s preliminary jobless rate was 10.2 percent for February, down from the revised January post-holiday figure of 10.4 percent and last February’s 11.1 percent, according to recently released Georgia Department of Labor figures.
“No matter what indicator you’re looking at, it seems that all signs show things are looking up,” said Carroll County Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Daniel Jackson. “As we move into spring, we’re excited about the direction we’re going.”
Jackson said the chamber has added 32 new members during the first quarter of the year and has participated in seven ribbon cuttings at new businesses.
“We want new activity and want to see existing businesses expand and do well,” he said. “It looks like that is happening as well.”
The job fair will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The recreation department is at 1201 Newnan Road, just south of West Georgia Technical College in Carrollton.
